Discovering True Life in Jesus
Meaningless
Generation after generation has chased after all that the world has to offer: wealth and possessions, status and power, pleasure and ease. Yet like King Solomon in the Bible, we all must admit that this type of life—lived for self and apart from God—is meaningless in the end.
“I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” – Ecclesiastes 1:14
Life to the Full
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10
Jesus Christ came into the world to rescue us from lives walking in darkness: seeking more, but never having enough; looking for pleasure, but never satisfied; possessing everything, yet finding ourselves empty, lonely, and despairing.
Jesus calls us out of a life of worthless pursuits into a life of service in His kingdom. It’s a life where we walk out the plans and purposes for which God created us: loving God, loving others, and making disciples of Jesus. Yes, we must die to ourselves and our own desires, but in so doing, we realize how much they only led to our unhappiness and dissatisfaction.
“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” – Matthew 10:39
There is no greater joy than sharing the love of Jesus with others.
There is no greater satisfaction than a close communion with the God of the universe!
There is no greater peace and contentment found than when you realize you already have everything you could ever need in Jesus.
Life’s True Adventure
It’s in following Jesus that we find life’s true adventure.
Why?
While Jesus is good, He isn’t safe. Following Him is a wild path where, just like the Apostle Peter, God often calls us to step out of the boat (our comfort zone) onto the waves, trusting in Him not to sink. There may be many times God pushes us beyond what we feel we can handle, but when the extraordinary is done through the ordinary, He is glorified. There may be seasons where we grow tired and weary as life’s burdens weigh heavily on us. Yet that’s when we see the blessing of being renewed and carried by the Holy Spirit living within us.
It’s also an adventure because, as we follow Jesus, we will see the glory and majesty of God in ways we never could have seen had we stayed safe or comfortable. We have the joy of seeing lost souls redeemed and turned around by God. We are free to live our lives without worry, fear, or shame because we know that there is no condemnation for those in Christ and nothing will ever separate us from His love.
So don’t waste another day! Set out walking with Jesus on the life that is truly life.
